Meeting commenced approximately 8:00 p.m. President, Ken Zapantis handed out new decals.

New member of the executive, Leslie Shelby was introduced to the membership. Leslie will be handling the Administration for the club. Duties will include minutes of all meetings, distribution via e-mail of minutes to any members not in attendance, maintaining a membership list, and any other duties requested by the President.

Ken stated that the aim of our club is to meet new friends, have social events, go on cruises and rallies, and to have fun with our PT Cruisers.

Cruises were one of the main topics of the meeting. Leslie presented several choices for various dinner locations through out the Lower Mainland along with suggestions for both day cruises – ending with dinner or beginning with breakfast or lunch – and also overnight cruises to locations such as Tofino, Barkerville, Kamloops, and the Okanagan Valley. Other suggestions, presented by attending members were a Christmas light tour, a wine tour, an afternoon drive to the Chilliwack Airport and their famous pie shop, a trip to the Ladner Public Market. Leslie will arrange the first cruise/dinner for March.

It was decided that we must also have cruises/events on Vancouver Island from time to time.

Our other main topic was a major event to take place in June 2009. This would be a three-day event with participants invited from all over Canada and the United States, with the focus on a format similar to Cruise to the Falls. Several locations were suggested – Whistler, Harrison Hot Springs, the new Revelstoke ski resort. It was tentatively decided to hold the event in the Okanagan Valley. Whichever location we decide upon, it was pointed out that this would require the full co-operation and participation of all members to make this event a success. There is much to be decided over the next few months as to the final date, the location, and then the organization and planning for accommodations, food, trophies, the site, a cruise, etc. The plan is to repeat this event every year. We also need to pick out a catchy name for this event, such as Cruise to Wine Country.

While we are still small, we will check out other car shows in which we may be included. Regardless, it was suggested by Leslie that we all assemble in one common area, and always arrive at our destination as a group. This will call attention to us and perhaps bring in more members. Ken pointed out the membership is our prime concern and urges all members to hand out our cards whenever and wherever we see another PT Cruiser.

Suggested car shows which we may piggyback: Langley Cruise-in, Mopar show, Old Cars in the Park, Kamloops Vintage Car Show, White Rock Westcoasters. Various members will check out individual events for our possible inclusion.

Ken also asked if any members should have display tables, popup tent/canopies, or anything else that the club might use as a display/hospitability area at any car shows we might attend.

Leslie will be making up a roster of all club members, including names, addresses, contact telephone numbers, and e-mails. Also requested would be birthdays (year not required!) and anniversary dates. It will also include the year and colour of the members’ PTs and any customization that has been done. This will be distributed only to club members. Each member will be contact beforehand to obtain permission for inclusion on the list.

Ken has drafted a pamphlet to be distributed throughout the Province to the Chrysler dealerships, tire shops, KMS tools, and any other locations members can think of. He would like to include photos of members’ vehicles and has asked that each of us e-mail a photo of our vehicle to him as soon as possible.

Also discussed was club clothing. Steve Burnfield will look into club jackets. Colours suggested were navy blue, dark gray, and medium gray with blue trim. Steve will supply a selection of 3 – 4 styles to choose from. A volume purchase will make the costs lower, so input from all members would be appreciated. Also suggested were golf shits (must have pockets!), t-shirts, and fleece vests. Size range was important and up to 4XL will be required. The club will also look into emblems that can be sold separately and sewn onto visors, fanny packs, tote bags, towels, and chairs.

Finally, Ken suggested that all members obtain a set of family communication devices for cruises. The preferred model is the Cobra, available for approximately $60 per pair. Leslie pointed out that these radios are currently on the Save-On-More rewards program and can be obtained at no charge through them (with enough points).

The meeting concluded at approximately 9:30 pm

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 7th, at 7:00 pm., Ricky’s Grill at 152nd Street and the Fraser Highway, Surrey, B.C.
